Peter "Pete" Rienstra

Peter Charles Rienstra, 92, of Jenison, MI entered into eternal life on May 5, 2026. Peter died from infection complications after spending his final years at the Medilodge of Zeeland, MI. Peter was born September 15, 1933 in Boyne City, MI. His parents were August and Gertrude Rienstra. Peter was the brother of John, Alice, William, and David. The Rienstra family eventually moved to Grand Rapids. While working at Mary Free Bed Hospital, Vivian Town introduced Peter to their daughter, Shirley. In short order, they were married. Peter lived a life of hard work and joyful devotion to his wife of 64 years. Peter was a faithful husband and a father to three sons, Douglas, Daniel, and Steven. He provided for every need and also found a way to provide many unexpected extras, even when finances were tight. Peter and Shirley enjoyed traveling, the love of their family and a good cup of coffee. Peter helped with mission work to the flood victims of Missouri. He was always willing to help others. Peter employed friends of his sons in his painting business, although there was as much kidding around as there was productive work getting done! Peter volunteered at the Community Education Center, teaching about painting and color blending. An all-around nice guy, Peter was well liked by everyone, including the staff at the Zeeland Medilodge. Peter was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, his wife Shirley Rienstra, and his son Daniel (Linda) Rienstra. He is survived by Douglas (Debra) Rienstra, Steven (Kathy) Rienstra, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. According to Peter’s instructions, he will be cremated. No services will be held.
