Sheryl Kanten, age 72, of Hudsonville, Michigan, completed her life’s journey on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. Sheryl devoted many years to caring for others as a nurse, foster mom through Bethany Christian Services and later co-owned a yarn shop with her sister. She was also very active in her faith and church community, including taking a leadership role in Bible Study Fellowship. Sheryl found joy in the simple pleasures of life- knitting beautiful creations, playing music, and experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes to share with those she loved. Sheryl spent as much time as she could traveling around the world with her husband of 52 years and her family. Sheryl cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and felt especially blessed to have met her great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her mother, Arlene Wolfert, and her father, Herman Van Laar. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Richard “Dick” Kanten, daughter, Kimberly (Dave) Fleming; daughter, Courtney (Matt) Stellema, daughter, Holly (Adam) Berkey, son, Chris Kanten, daughter, Kelsea Kanten, son, Seth (Sarah) Kanten, and bonus daughter, Mo Pham and her family. Her grandchildren, Aiden (Karen) Stellema, Connor Stellema, Greyson Fleming, Haidon Fleming, Mason Berkey, Boyd Stellema, Breslon Fleming, Eliana Kanten; great-granddaughter, Ainsley Stellema. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 20, 2026 at LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church, 107 La Grave Ave. SE, Grand Rapids. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Friday from 10-11 am prior to the service at the church. Those who wish, may make memorial contributions to Bethany Christian Services, Benjamin’s Hope, or Harmony Communities.
