Lorna June Bordewyk, age 78, Byron Center, born July 8, 1947, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, September 25, 2025. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Josh (Tracy) Bordewyk, Melanie Brown, Jason (Sarah) Bordewyk; grandchildren, Emma Brown, Brendan Bordewyk, Caleb Bordewyk, Ona Brown, Abi Bordewyk; sisters, Anne (Ron) Bengelink, Aleta (Don) O’Shinski. She was preceded in death by her father, Theodore Faber; mother, Ida (Diephuis) Faber; sister, Fran Riley; brother-in-law, Reed Riley.
Lorna will be remembered for her gracious, kind, loving, witty, and independent spirit. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend who supported and cared deeply for those she loved. One of four sisters, Lorna cherished her family and maintained lifelong friendships that enriched her life and the lives of those around her.
Her faith was central to her life. She was faithful in prayer and scripture reading. She served as secretary for more than twenty years at Calvary Reformed Church in Grand Rapids. Later in life, she found a new church home at Eighth Reformed Church, where she continued to worship faithfully.
Staying active in body, mind, and spirit was important to her. Lorna loved her daily walks, reading, time with her sisters, and pursuing her passion for bird watching. She had a deep love for nature and God’s creation, a love she passed on to her children through annual camping trips to Ludington State Park and later visits to Seney National Wildlife Refuge. Each year, she made regular trips to Point Pelee National Park for the spring warbler migration, a tradition she cherished. A recent treasured memory was sharing her final visit to Point Pelee with two of her children on Mother’s Day.
Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends are welcomed to join the family for a memorial service being held at Eighth Reformed Church, 841 Burton St. S.W, in Wyoming, Saturday, October 25th at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Eight Reformed Church may be made in Lorna’s memory.
